Intercomparison trials of ammonia emission measurement methodologies

27/07/2026

As part of the collaboration and knowledge transfer activities promoted by the LIFE CLINMED-Farm project, joint trials have been conducted to evaluate and compare different methodologies for quantifying ammonia (NH₃) emissions associated with the agricultural application of pig slurry. These activities involved research teams from CITA, Aarhus University (Denmark), and the Technical University of Madrid (UPM, Spain).

The initiative enabled the assessment of six emission monitoring techniques at two sites with contrasting agroclimatic conditions: Zaragoza, Spain (2-8 June 2026) and Foulum, Denmark (23-29 June 2026). This approach facilitated the study of the influence of different environmental factors on ammonia emissions and the validation of the methodologies employed.

These activities were carried out within the framework of the AGROSCENA-NEXT project and the AgNUE platform, contributing to the development of tools and strategies for more sustainable nutrient management in agriculture.

In addition, participants in the seminar “Mitigation and Adaptation Options for Mediterranean Agriculture under the Climate Change Challenge” (CIHEAM, 2 June 2026) had the opportunity to visit the experimental field site and attend a presentation on the methodologies used, delivered directly by the researchers involved.
