Emission mitigation techniques in on-farm slurry management

Two farm-scale demonstration cases will be carried out in regions combining a high density of livestock production and large areas of extensive irrigated crops. They were selected as representative of two agricultural areas of the Mediterranean arc. 

The case studies will be implemented combining different management techniques at all stages of the slurry chain avoiding transfers in impacts from one stage to another. The whole management chain is covered, reducing inputs, substituting synthetic nitrogen fertilizers, and enhancing energy consumption from renewable sources. The efficiency and operational stability of the technical solutions will be evaluated by providing reliable and comparable information on their performance to farmers, administration, and other stakeholders. 

Their implementation will be monitored and evaluated for 2 years: 2023-2024 comparing the results with the baseline scenario that will be analysed during the first year of the project before adapting the facilities and changing management strategies.
